My Tai Chi Story

About

Wutan school of Martial arts including Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and other Internal arts first came to the UK in 1977, it was introduced by master They Soon Tuan and continues to this day with the headquarters currently based in Southampton. Wutan school of martial arts has many different schools all over the UK with lots of students at different levels, the Wutan school of Tai Chi has been, and is still, proudly run by master They Soon Tuan.

I began my study of Wutan Martial arts in September 2004 taking lessons from Barbara Donne, working alongside her partner Geoff, who have both spent many years studying the various different styles of martial arts, including Tai Chi and Kung Fu within the Wutan school. Most of their study has been learnt directly from Master They Soon Tuan himself.

At the beginning of 2019 Barbara Donne, my Tai Chi instructor announced her plans of retirement from teaching some of her Tai chi classes, which she has been teaching for many years.

Barbara very kindly asked me if I would be willing to “carry the baton on” and continue the teaching of Tai Chi in her absence.

Since doing so I feel that I have learnt a great deal from teaching and would like to start up some new classes for beginners.

I really enjoy Teaching Tai Chi and am looking forward to passing on my knowledge of this art passed down to me by Barbara Donne.

I personally find Tai Chi a very broad and interesting subject which can become an in-depth topic at times.

With the regular practice of Tai Chi, there is a constant learning about one’s self where there are always new physical and mental challenges, with discipline one can obtain a deeper understanding of their body movements and understanding themselves.

Since I began my personal Tai Chi journey in one of Barbara Donne’s classes, which I started in my early 20’s, I have along the way met and become married to my now wife Gemma, we also now have three children together.

I have continued to attend regular classes with regular practice at home until this present day.

I currently have a full time job completing landscaping projects for a whole manner of clients in the Dorset area.

My plan for the future is to build up enough classes so I can transition from my current landscaping career to teaching Tai chi full time.
